Today as part of my pediatrics rotation, I had the incredible opportunity to spend time in the newborn nursery. Not only did I learn how to perform a physical exam on newborn babies, but I also came to realize that babies are the ultimate teachers of mindfulness. Walking into the room, I was captivated by the tiny bundles of life, each one radiating a sense of wonder. Babies have no concept of the past or future—they exist purely in the moment. Whether they’re crying, sleeping, or simply gazing around, they are fully immersed in whatever they’re feeling or experiencing at that very moment. It’s funny because, although babies have so much to learn about the world, they already grasp the simplest truth: the present is everything.
