I’ve always been quite the minimalist when it comes to makeup, just enough to feel put-together, but nothing too heavy. Over the years I’ve discovered a handful of drugstore gems that I love and quite honestly, I only use these ones since. Here are the products I use most frequently (and highly recommend):
- Neutrogena SkinClearing Mineral Acne-Concealing Pressed Powder Compact
I lightly dust this all over my face to even-out my skin tone and control the shine. I also dab it right onto any blemishes (before and after concealer) and find that it really helps to keep the concealer in place all day! - Almay Clear Complexion Concealer
My go-to for any pimples. It has a matte finish and is less creamy than normal concealers, which helps dry out any pimples. And it has salicylic acid so it helps to actually treat the pimple as well! - Neutrogena SkinClearing Blemish Concealer
This concealer is very similar to the Almay concealer and also has salicylic acid to help treat any pimples. I find that this formula is a bit creamier so I also use it under my eyes or on larger areas of redness because it blends very well. - Maybelline Dream Fresh BB Cream
Perfect for days (or special events) when I want to be a little bit more glamorous. This BB cream really evens out my skin tone without feeling like full coverage. I will say that even though the coverage is really light, I do feel like something is on my face as opposed to my preferred method of just spot concealing with a bit of concealer and light powder. - Revlon SkinLights Bronzer
No sparkle, no fake tan look, just a warm “just back from vacation” glow. I brush it across my cheekbones, forehead, jawline, and a bit down the sides of my neck. The shade I have is Sunkissed (115) and as the name implies, it really does give the final look of being sunkissed. - L’Oréal Voluminous Original Mascara
Mascara is a game-changer. I don’t wear it every day but when I do, the difference always shocks me. This mascara is not clumpy and gives lifted and defined lashes without being too obvious. Even if I’m running on caffeine and minimal sleep, this mascara really brightens up my eyes and makes me feel really put-together. - Aquaphor lip balm + lip gloss of your choice
This is my favorite combination. For some reason, my lips are always dry at baseline. Adding a base coat of Aquaphor lip balm keeps my lips soft and moisturized. Then a little bit of lip gloss on top adds subtle shine and tint. My current favorite lip gloss is the bareMinerals GEN NUDE lip laquer which I got as a free sample once hihi. - Occasional Extras:
- Maybelline Fit Me Blush: I don’t wear blush often because my cheeks already get quite red. But when I do, I usually go for one of these powder blushes for a nice subtle pop of color.
- Urban Decay Naked2 Basics Palette: I know this is not a drugstore product, but hear me out! I have been using this neutral palette since ‘Santa Claus’ gifted it to me at 14 years old…
I do also brush up my eyebrows but I don’t use any product, just a little placement to shape them properly. And that’s it! I hope you will try out some (if not all) of these products. As you can see, I customized my routine based on my own preferences and skin concerns (aka pesky pimples), but feel free to use this as an inspiration to discover your own favorite makeup staples.
