I went out to brunch this morning with Tony’s family. We really wanted to be seated at a booth, so we politely made our request upon arrival. Unfortunately, the waitresses weren’t having it: “We have no booths, and even if we did, they are reserved for larger parties of five or more people” (side note: all the booths were filled with four-person parties, and this restaurant doesn’t take reservations). They seated us at a long table in the middle of the restaurant, right next to another family. Before we even decided on our menu choices, we spotted an open booth. I was too embarrassed to ask again, but Tony bravely re-asked. And guess what?! It was still a firm “No.” Lesson of the day: life doesn’t always give you what you want, but you’ve got nothing to lose by asking. The worst you’ll get is a no—which is exactly what you had to begin with!
