Pleasure comes from without. Joy comes from within.
It’s so easy to think that we can only be happy when most, if not all things in our life are how we want them to be:
“I’ll be happy when this is over.”
“I’ll be happy when I have more time.”
“I’ll be happy when I achieve this.”
“I’ll be happy when things are easier.”
But guess what? Even when all these things happen, there will inevitably be another “when”…
To be clear, there is nothing wrong with wanting things to change or working toward a life of your dreams. But we don’t have to wait for a better situation to allow ourselves to enjoy the present situation we are in.
Enjoy the pleasures that life gives you, but don’t expect them to create your joy.
Life will always have uncertainty and difficulties; therefore joy must exist alongside uncertainty and difficulties.
You don’t have to wait until life gets better to start being happy.
